Pug 406 2.1TD - won't idle
Hello,
I have a 1997 406 LX 2.1 TD that will not tick over even when revved a little. The problem has got progressively worse over the last few weeks and the
car is now undrivable.
I have replaced the fuel filter and checked the air filter (tried running the engine without it in place) and replaced a slack timing belt with a new
belt and tensioner - the engine has done over 200K miles.
The engine uses the Lucas EPIC injection system. The engine fires straight away when the starter is operated but it won't keep running - the rev
counter is all over the place.
I'm at a loss to know what to check next.

Is the timing correct?
Could be drawing in air into the fuel line.
Loving the new Grand scenic.

This sounds like some of the symptons that people have reported on the Mondeo ST TDCI 2.2, and the usual cause was injector problems.
Some have cleared up after using some strong injector cleaner, but most have needed replacement injectors.
This is a different engine though, so it may be something else, but thought it might be worth mentioning as something to look at.
Do you have access to a fault code reader?
Always wrong.
